A Light Week

Already another week in review here on the learning notes.  This has been a "light" week for us academically.  Certainly not spiritually as we are of course celebrating this week of Our Risen Lord and enjoying the readings that accompany the Resurrection.  The older two and even Seamus my now 4 yo is really absorbing the life of Jesus and it’s such a pleasure to walk them through the bible and encourage their wonder and good works that trickle down.

We thought we had a great house, but it’s not to be, sigh…we’ve decided on a rental and although it’s going to be quite a sacrifice in yard space, we hope to build sooner and not be obligated to heavy house payments.

Temps have reached 65 this week so it truly feels like Spring during the day.  The kids have enjoyed several outdoor picnic lunches and tons of baseball games and skateboading, scootering, and swinging.  Violet loves to take her books up into the playhouse and read!!  I love that! I think I’ll join her!

Hope you all have had a blessed Easter week as well.

A Hunting We Will Go…

Oh, A Hunting We Will Go, A Hunting We Wil Go…Hi-Ho the Dario, A Hunting We Will Go!!!

Well, Sweetness and the Gang have been away doing more house hunting and we think we’ve finally found the ONE that’s going to work!!!  Yippee Skippee!

Our pre-Easter week in review:

Monday of Holy Week we celebrated Matthias’s baptismal anniversary and mainly did our new Saxon Math which is going great, we love it and I imagine the kids will be ready for the next level by Fall! Oh and Violet had ballet class!

Tuesday of Holy Week a cleaning and laundry day as we had an appt with a moving company, all the miscellaneous stuff that goes along with that.

Wednesday of Holy Week was a regular school day with lots of outside playtime as the weather was favorable.

Holy Thursday was a wonderful day and we had a nice Last Supper style dinner.

Good Friday was the highlight of the week as we prepared for and celebrated with our Solemn Lenten Tea #2 put together by the most talented and creative Alice!  (More at Sweetness and Light)

Holy Saturday was another cleaning and preparation day and then we attended the lovely Easter Vigil Mass at our parish.

Easter Sunday we awoke to the cheerful voices of little dear children that have just discovered their filled Easter baskets!  A lovely quiet family day with SNOW!! but a quick bike ride was taken before the weather turned inclement, then we celebrated with our beautiful Easter dinner with ALL the works!

We Are So Blessed!  Happy Easter!

Week in Review

We had a super week all around.  Lots of outdoor time, except for one really wierd snow day, but it melted by noon and then it was back out to play and explore again!!  Our neck of the woods is slowly coming to life in the form of Spring and we’re enjoying all the bird activity.  (Note to self:  post kids poetry on main blog)

We received our new Saxon math (I love how fast Sonlight delivers and the 10% discount is nice too!!) and the kids were so excited to jump right in. I was a little unprepared (gasp) but we managed through a few of the first lessons and I know they will all do great!  Seamus feels like such a big boy now with his very own math book!!  That was worth it’s price in gold right there.

Busy day today as Matthias has his "secular" 1st Communion class today and we haven’t done our home work, ack!  Home schoolers are so lazy, right?  I am taking his beautiful 1st Communion notebook with us today so he can show the Parish life director, she’s going to love it!!

Still celebrating daddy’s birthday throughout the weekend, kids have surprised him with something new every morning!  Happy weekend!

Finally A Spring Day!

We finally are having some real Spring weather with temperatures above 40 degrees!!  The kids are so excited not to have to battle the snow and can ride their bikes, scooters and rollerblades without the fear (mommy’s) of skidding out on the ice, yeah!!

The robins are here by the hundreds, as well as the red-winged blackbirds, house finches and starlings. It’s been fun watching them flitting and fluttering about, I’m expecting some "bird-like" Spring poetry from the older two this afternoon!!

I’m excited for our new math programs to arrive as the Principal and I decided on Saxon (with lots of good advice from dear A. <wink>).  We’ve been doing the great online drills from Math-U-See and they love those too!!  We’ll keep at the Miquon until they are finished as well because they seem to really develop the mental math skills quite well.

We had a lovely early tea today as Violet resumes her ballet class today and the boys are back outside again riding round the loop!

Ahh, glorious Spring, thank you for making your appearance at long last!

Got Violet’s embroidered quilt squares all framed over the weekend in the lovely calico fabrics she and I picked out a couple of weeks ago, it’s going to be so pretty.  Hoping to work on the striping in between and put it all together before her birthday in 3 weeks!!  Pictures, don’t forget the pictures!
